Appendicitis is commonly observed in children and is an indication of swelling or inflammation in the appendix. If the problem is not diagnosed in time, this can turn into something fatal.

There are a few things to know about appendicitis in children so that you can help them when they are facing difficulty. Here is what you should know.

Symptoms

  • Experiencing pain around the belly button which extends to the lower abdomen.
  • pain while coughing, sneezing, and also on touching the belly.
  • Constantly upset stomach
  • Difficulty in bowel movement
  • Swollen belly

Causes

There can be various reasons for the occurrence of appendicitis. It can be caused due to an infection, blockage, or inflammation. Due to this, the bacterial growth in the appendix can accelerate and cause intense stomach pain. The blood flow through the appendix may also be compromised and the appendix may die off.

Treatment of Appendicitis

Depending on the condition, appendicitis is treated surgically and may be removed through the traditional or laparoscopic method. If the problem can be controlled, the doctors may opt for a less invasive approach and the recovery time will also depend on that.

Some of the movements may be restricted if there is surgery but after it heals, your child will be just fine.
