Need to Address Mental Health Issues in Children

Dec 29 , 2020

The importance of addressing mental health issues is being realized recently as it affects our decision-making skills, mood, and behavior. Adults are finally grasping the concept and this has also helped them understand how important it is to keep a check on their children’s mental health.

Young children go through many behavioral changes as they are growing up and their issues are often dismissed by many adults. This encourages them to hide their feelings and can further develop into issues.

As the pandemic hit the world and countries went under lockdown, children have been spending most of their time at home, and conversations around mental health are being acknowledged more.

Here are some common mental health issues that children face:

  • ADHD
  • Eating disorders
  • Sleeping disorders
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

These mental health problems can be noticed with help of symptoms. It is important to keep an eye on obvious ones including withdrawal, mood swings, constant unhappiness, suicidal tendencies, and others.

It is important to discuss the mental health problems in children as they often get overlooked. Talk to your children and give them space to express themselves.

The pandemic has been tough on children too. Help them understand what they can do to keep their mental health in check. Spend time with them as it is difficult to adjust to the new norms and also to stay away from peers for such a long time.
