How to Treat Sore Throat in Pregnancy

When you become pregnant everything that happens to you can affect not just your body, but your unborn child as well. Even if you get a cold, you might wonder if it is safe or not as everything changes when you are pregnant. Sore throat during pregnancy could also be because of allergies, or gastroesophageal reflux  As you are not allowed to take just any medicine in pregnancy, treating a cold or flu becomes quite difficult. So here are some ways to treat sore throat in pregnancy: 

  • Gargle 

Gargling with warm salt water (1/4 teaspoon of salt to 8 ounces of warm water) can ease a sore throat. So gargle at least twice a day.

  • Honey lemon tea 

Honey will help in soothing the throat, and lemon could combat bacteria and clear the mucus. Drink up honey lemon tea daily to treat sore throat. 

  • Steam inhalation 

Taking steam twice a day will really help in treating sore throat. Steam inhalation moistens your mucus membrane and might offer relief from a dry throat. 

  • Use nasal spray 

Nasal sprays help in moisten your nasal passages, as they are medicated and are completely safe to use. They will provide you instant relief. 

  • Intake vitamin C

Foods that provide vitamin C can boost your immune system. Try to eat fruits such as oranges, tangerines, grapefruit, strawberries, melon, kiwi, mango, and veggies like tomatoes, bell peppers, papaya, broccoli, red cabbage and spinach.
