Pregnancy is a wonderful feeling but it comes the worse feeling of morning sickness and nausea! Honestly as a mom who faced this during my first trimester I will not beat around the bush, it was horrible! When a woman is pregnant her body produces a large quantity of HCG that is useful for the baby. And all this hormonal hullabaloo cause sickness and nausea. Studies show that over 65% of women suffer from morning sickness during their pregnancy, and I wasn’t the only one suffering! However, nausea is horrible! I would envy mothers who never faced it even once during their nine months, ever! Well I read up and tried many things in the first trimester and her is how I found some relieve:
The first thing I learnt was that the baby hated me being empty stomach and that I could actually counter morning sickness by eating something as soon as I got up. It wasn’t exactly a huge breakfast or healthy even, I would have nuts, biscuits or a cup of chocolate milk. But the small early morning treat kept me fine. So did avoiding elaborate and heavy foods so pick small meals over one big binge fest. Keep some snacks by your bedside and eat when you get up. A small amount of food is easier to digest and it will keep you fuller as well. Take your vitamins with food.
Ginger tea is claimed to heal pregnancy sickness. A cup of ginger tea can soothe your stomach and ease motion sickness as well. Ginger in any form is best for easing nausea. You can also eat ginger cookies and biscuits with tea. Even doctors suggest that it is worth trying, it worked well for me.
Water is undoubtedly the best medicine. If you don’t want morning sickness, I would advise you to drink one glass of water every hour. Also, drink a glass of water whenever you wake up at night. You can also take any water-based lemon drink as well. This ensures a good start of your day and eliminates nausea.
Aromatherapy can relax you. Try smelling a few fragrances before zeroing in on the one that you would fall in love with. Like sniffing a slice of lemon helped me and my morning sickness. Estrogen is the hormone responsible for the sense of smell and it increases in pregnancy- sniff fresh scents to feel better. You can try lime, spearmint, orange, and mandarin etc.
Boost your Vitamin B
A dose of Vitamin B6 can reduce nausea and vomiting in pregnancy. Take it regularly as your doctor advises.
