Why You Should Keep Kids Barefoot

Oct 05 , 2020

Here is why you must let your kids go barefoot:

As parents, we get irritated when our kids remove their shoes and walk barefoot. We always ask them to wear slipper or shoes while roaming in the house. But do you know letting them walk barefoot is also great as according to studies letting kids go shoeless as often as possible does wonder for their foot and brain development.

If you look at history, it makes sense as shoes were worn to keep the feet warm and protected. And there’s no evolutionary or physiological basis for shoes with any kind of heel or even any kind of “support. Our feet work just like they’re supposed to help our bodies move around without assistance from fancy soles.

In fact, wearing shoes at all times through childhood and toddlerhood might cause many foot problems. Flat-footedness has been linked with early shoe usage an some studies even suggest that all  shoes can actually teach kids to walk incorrectly.

So, this is a piece of good news for the parents whose children prefer to run around barefoot in the house or who take off their shoes quickly. Human feet used to be healthier before the advent of shoes so the longer and more often kids go barefoot, the better it is for them. For babies and toddlers, in particular, exploring the world with bare feet proposes sensory stimulation that helps to develop various parts of the brain.

Also, the feet are one of the most nerve-rich parts of the human body, and letting kids fully feel variations in texture on their feet helps them to be mindful of their surroundings, aids in balance and coordination and builds neuromuscular strength.

So if kids insist on playing barefoot, let them be.
