Some people plan pregnancy way too much. But there is always a point when couples start planning a baby and that is the time when you need to make some lifestyle changes. To give yourself the best chance for a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby, you need to stop doing certain things. Check out the list of things that you should do before planning a pregnancy:
• Limit caffeine
While you are planning for pregnancy limit your caffeine intake. It is the right time to give it up for a while or cut down its intake. The recommended intake is 200mg per day and too much caffeine intake can also trigger a miscarriage.
• Get fit
Don’t mix getting fit to losing weight. Getting fit is eating healthy, doing exercise, yoga and increasing your water intake.
• Go off the pill
It is a great idea to stop taking contraceptive pills one month before you start trying for a baby. This gives your natural cycle a chance to re-establish itself.
• Pay attention to your mental health
Women who suffer from depression and stress are likely to have a problem with fertility. So it is suggested to have a mental health checkup before you get pregnant. If you notice signs of depression-like loss of interest, energy, or changes in sleep patterns you must go to a therapist.
• Figure out your ovulation period
Use our Ovulation Calculator to get a rough estimate of when you’re most fertile. This will help you get pregnant.
• Stop smoking
Both you and your partner must stop smoking before you try to get pregnant. Smoking increases the risk of miscarriage and is bad for the health of the baby.
