Many people make it seem like an easy task but parenting can be tough, depending on a lot of factors. Even after having a lot of support, many parents hit a wall and it is an existing problem identified by the doctors.

Parental burnout has visible symptoms and what parents might think is a temporary feeling can just be a sign that it is time to take a break and reach out for support.

It is important to take care of yourself as much as you’d take care of your child. We tell you few things to know about parental burnout that will help you take care of it.

Symptoms of parental burnout

Common symptoms of it include:

  • Increased anxiety around responsibilities
  • Feeling emotionally detached
  • Having health issues
  • Irritation and frustration
  • Frequent fights and arguments with family members
  • Disordered sleeping pattern

Causes

There can be various reasons why a parent might be feeling this way. It is often the result of an imbalance between personal life and parental life. Sometimes it becomes difficult to manage the two and if there are any recent changes in life then the stress levels can increase and that can become a part of the issue.

Ways to manage parental burnout

It is okay to take a break from time to time and while you can’t step away from parental duties for a few days, you can surely ask for help. You may also want to set your expectations right and not aim to be perfect. Start by accepting that you are doing your best and as a parent, you can take care of yourself when needed.
