Common Symptoms That Tell About Impending Menopause

All women experience some emotional and physical symptoms during menopause due to hormonal imbalance. Menopause is a normal condition which every woman experience when she reaches the age of 40s or 50s. This term can describe any changes that a woman goes through either before or after she stops menstruating, the end of her reproduction period.

Menopause happens as female sex hormone levels naturally go down as a result of aging. Ovaries stop releasing eggs, so you will no longer have periods or be able to get pregnant. Typically a woman starts experiencing menopause symptoms around her mid-40s, check out some of them below:

  1. Irregular periods

This is the most common sign that you might go through menopause. You might experience a change in your periods they may come more often or less often, heavier or lighter, or last longer or shorter. In the pre-menopausal state, it is hard to figure out that you will have your next period or not.

  1. You tend to forget things

At middle age, both men and women can have some memory lapses. Usually, women can suffer from forgetfulness due to menopause and stress. It is a normal state but if you think you are forgetting too much, visit a doctor.

  1. Mood swings

Having mood swings during menopause is common but difficult to deal with. A woman can feel like she is going through a roller coaster of emotions, mood swings can be intense, one minute she is happy, the next she is down. Mood swings are caused by hormonal imbalances when production of the hormone estrogen drops, the production of mood-regulating neurotransmitters also drops which results in mood swings.

  1. Hot flashes

The hot flash is a sensation of warmth or heat that spreads over the body creating redness or flushing on the face and upper part of the body. They are the result of body’s reaction to the less supply of the hormone estrogen, which occurs naturally as women approach menopause.

  1. Sleep disorders

Waking up during the night or trouble in sleeping can occur due to many reasons, but if you don’t suffer from sleep problems, it may be the sign of menopause. Women going through menopause may find that their sleep is less relaxing and going to sleep becomes even more difficult.

  1. Vaginal dryness

Vaginal dryness happens when the moist and soft lining of the vagina disappears, resulting in symptoms like itchiness and irritation.  When estrogen levels drop during premenopause, the vaginal tissue becomes drier, thinner and less flexible. Lack of lubrication leads to sex becoming uncomfortable, and the vagina is frequently itchy and more prone to infections.

These are some of the common symptoms of menopause. There are other signs as well like hair loss, weight gain, bloating and anxiety etc.
